Meet Our Practitioners
Meet Pura Vida's dedicated and passionate practitioners, here to support you every step of the way.

A Team Committed to Your Transformation
Our providers are trained in a bidirectional therapeutic approach that incorporates elements of care related to the mind, body, and spirit. Each provider at Pura Vida Psychiatry brings their own unique expertise, style, and intuitive approach to care, ensuring that every client receives individualized support tailored to their specific needs. From integrative psychiatry to somatic-based therapies, our providers incorporate evidence-based medicine, functional and nutritional psychiatry, trauma-informed care, and holistic healing modalities into their practice.
We believe that symptoms are not simply problems to be medicated away, but messages from the body and soul, pointing toward areas that need healing and balance. By addressing the root causes of distress, whether emotional, physical, or spiritual, we guide our clients toward deep, lasting transformation rather than temporary relief.

R. Maryam Maurer
DNP, PMHNP-BC, RN, LMT
Maryam is a deeply committed healer, teacher, and lifelong seeker, devoted to the integration of mind, body, and spirit in the pursuit of true well-being. With seven college degrees spanning the fields of massage therapy, nursing, and mental health, she brings a uniquely holistic and multidimensional approach to her work.

A licensed massage therapist since 2005, Maryam earned her Associate’s degree in Massage Therapy and has since pursued further training in oncology massage, prenatal massage, pediatric massage, deep tissue sculpting, and Reiki. Her experience spans diverse settings, including chiropractic offices, private practices, and high-end spas. Additionally, she has shared her expertise through teaching the art and science of massage therapy at the community college level.

Beyond bodywork, Maryam holds a Bachelor's degree in English, a Master’s degree in Nursing, a Post-Master’s Certificate as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. She has worked in a variety of nursing settings, including long-term care, adult inpatient psychiatry, maternity care, allergy and immunology, private duty nursing, and visiting nursing. As part of her advanced training, she completed a practicum with integrative psychiatrist Dr. Mallory in Lenox, MA, refining her understanding of holistic mental health care.

Recognizing a profound need for a deeper, integrative model of care, Maryam founded Pura Vida Psychiatry, not simply as a practice but as a movement toward reconnection—with one's higher self, intuition, and innate healing capabilities. She has developed a unique, root-cause approach to psychiatry and therapy, integrating functional medicine, bi-directional healing, and holistic interventions that honor both the physiological and spiritual aspects of health.

Her work is deeply influenced by leaders in neuroscience, trauma healing, and mind-body medicine, including Dr. Wayne Dyer, Dr. Caroline Leaf, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Dr. Kelly Brogan, Dr. Peter Levine, and Dr. Gabor Maté. She is also profoundly inspired by New Thought philosophy, recognizing the power of consciousness and belief in shaping reality. At the core of her work is an unwavering belief in the body's natural ability to heal when given the proper conditions and support.

Maryam’s personal journey has been one of deep spiritual seeking. Raised with a strong influence from her father, a Sufi, she developed an intrinsic connection to the Divine and a lifelong curiosity about the nature of consciousness, existence, and the interconnectedness of all things. This reverence for the mystical and ineffable continues to inform her work, allowing her to bring a presence to her clients that supports their own discovery of self-truth and awareness. She believes that the most effective practitioners are those who have recognized their own higher self—because presence is felt, not just taught, and in that presence, healing naturally unfolds.

Dedicated to expanding Pura Vida Psychiatry, Maryam is in the process of developing educational programs for both practitioners and the general public, with the goal of sharing knowledge and integrative healing methodologies as broadly as possible for the highest good of all. She recognizes that we are all one—manifestations of the same Source—and that healing is not just an individual process but a collective awakening.

A devoted autodidact and lifelong learner, Maryam has pursued extensive continuing education in integrative and functional psychiatry, maternal mental health, integrative environmental health, the role of spirituality in mental health, embodied processing, and the art and science of herbalism.

On a personal level, Maryam finds joy in breathwork, mindfulness, and somatic processing through movement and meditation—practices she integrates into both her personal life and professional work. She is an avid reader, hiker, nature lover, writer, painter, dancer, and all around creative. Above all, she treasures her time simply being with her three children, all of whom she birthed naturally, embracing the beauty and sacredness of motherhood.

Through her work, teaching, and presence, Maryam is committed to uplifting, guiding, and empowering others on their journey toward self-discovery, healing, and wholeness.
